Under License

Under a license agreement with The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), Sea Sciences, has developed an optional Ethernet module to support both data and payload power to the Acrobat system.  This can reduce the number of conductors required in the tow cable to 4, resulting in a cable diameter reduction and improving diving depth.  It also simplifies data distribution topside for real-time viewing of each sensor.

Also a new motor module board is available using the latest motor control design resulting in better control data and less power consumption.  The boards can be retrofitted to older design motor modules.

New Acrobat Software V5.1.3 available as of Jan. 2008

Sea Sciences, Inc has introduced a new beta version of the Acrobat control software. This latest version 5.1.3 is available to all existing customers. Any machine with Windows XP, 2000, NT, 98, or 95 operating system will be able to run the Acrobat software. Please contact Sea Sciences, Inc for a copy.

The software has added some new features including:

  • A simplified control algorithm resulting.
  • Provision for a separate altimeter to control Acrobat altitude above the bottom.
  • Provision for a roll, tilt, compass sensor optionally added to provide better payload positioning information and bottom photography assistance.
  • Automatic logging of an Acrobat file (which includes GPS and computer time).
  • The beta version 5.1.3 also has a field calibration module for the pressure gauge.

High Tech Wings

The high efficiency wings are now being used by many of our customers and initial reviews have been fantastic.  The increased lift and overall hydrodynamic performance are proving their value in the field.   A retrofit kit is available for those customers wishing to replace existing wings.

The wings come in several, interchangeable spans.  The wings are of a tough, composite material.  However, should they be damaged due to impact with obstructions while towing, most can be repaired using commonly available epoxy materials.

Vectran tow cable

Sea Sciences, Inc provides a standard 10-conductor Vectran tow cable for all systems.  The cable has a twisted pair for use by the optional Ethernet data and power module.

Customer Owned Systems

The variety and complexity of Acrobat systems owned by customers continues to expand rapidly.  The latest systems include a Rosette water sampler, AMT dissolved DO sensor (90% in 20ms), upward looking ADCP, etc.
